SWINE FLU OUTBREAK - Why is this important? 4/26/09
An outbreak of the swine flu has initiated concerns that a pandemic may be starting. This is a time to get educated on what this is and what can mean for you personally. We will be discussing this in class, and below are some links you may find helpful.
To start we need to learn a bit about virus. What are they and how do they infect? What damage do they cause and how can they be stopped?Here is an explanation of what a virus is, how it infects cells and how it spreads.

This is an international effort to draw attention to our need to address the issue of global warming/climate change. Your job is to turn out your lights for one hour, starting at 8:30 pm, on March 28th.For 10 extra credit points, write up a paragraph describing the following:
-your success with getting your familly to turn out the lights for the full hour.
-what barriers their were to your success and how your family responded to your request.
-what it was like without the lights for an hour.
-explain how this action could cause a reaction by world leaders at the Global Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen 2009.

The other extra credit opportunity is March 27 - 29th, attend the Better Living Show at the Portland Expo Center.

Today we started the genetics problem packet.
You should do 2 problems from the monohybrid question, 2 from the dihybrid questions and all of the Beyond Mendel problems. In the additional Practice Problems, do 2 from the Multiple Alleles and Codominance section, 1 from the Incomplete Dominance section, 1 from the Epistasis section and all of the Other Variations on Mendel's Laws of Genetics section.
You should have these completed by Friday.
On Friday we will look at genetic disease.
